Introduction

Meetings “consist of three or more people who gather to pool information, solicit feedback, clarify policy, seek consensus, and solve problems” (Guffey, Rhodes, & Rogin, 2011, p.52).

A comprehensive definition of the word 'Meeting' can be found at:

Business meetings are an integral part of any company regardless of physical or financial scope. The time spent at meetings and away from working responsibilities should not be taken lightly, but should reflect positively back towards the success of the entire company.

Business meetings should also be viewed as much more than a span of time sitting around a table with co-workers discussing old and new matters. It is an opportunity for each attendee to present themselves, their skills and what they can contribute to the success of the company in a controlled and favorable environment. Leadership, communication and problem solving skills can be demonstrated to higher level employees through the productive planning and executing of valuable business meetings. This in turn, leads to earned respect and possibilities for career advancement.

The negative connotations associated with business meetings are largely due to the lack of efficient planning for a productive meeting (Team, 2010). By following the tips that will be discussed in this blog, you can start to replace the negativity with more positive and proactive attitudes.
